Government Purchases Unemployed Labor at Fixed Rate

• Start from MMT's central insight:

  • Government which issues its currency can purchase any and all goods and services offered for sale in that currency

• Offer to buy all unemployed labor at a fixed price

  • A socially acceptable minimum wage

  • Like our minimum wage, but with benefits like health care

• Federally funded, locally administered

• People hired have to show up for work

  • They have to work; they can get fired like anyone else if they slack

  • Work assignments consistent with the public purpose
