A new major version of a software program does not have to promise interoperability
It should simply provide significant interoperability
I'd be perfectly happy with:
A perl-7.0.0 which is a clone of perl-5.32.0
No promise of interoperability
No need for use v5; or use v7;
All my new code gets written in perl 7
perl-5.32.0 designated maintenance-only; no new features
5- to 10-year maintenance window
All my old code stays in perl 5 (until I decide to upgrade it)
