Perl 8: 202? Defaults

• The most important feature of Perl 7 is that there will be a Perl 8

• The language will evolve further

• Defaults will get better

  • Indirect object syntax only upon request

    • no feature 'indirect'; becomes default

    • Removes a blocker to adding new functionality to core

  • Much better subroutine signatures

    • Likely to revolutionize the "look and feel" of writing Perl

    • ... though at the expense of old prototype behavior
